Strengths-based Education, Empowerment and Knowledge for help-seeking during pregnancy

Safer BabySEEK is a national multidisciplinary consumer-driven project guided by co-design and preventive health principles. Currently, antenatal care has limitations including not meeting individual needs, delays in receiving appropriate care and other social complexities. Using an integrated approach, Safer BabySEEK will identify barriers and enablers to help-seeking and timely responsive pregnancy care, and address disparities in accessing optimal pregnancy care.

We aim to identify and strengthen approaches to support help-seeking among expectant parents within Priority Populations including:

  1. Indigenous parents,
  2. young parents, and
  3. those seeking help in early pregnancy

This project aims to improve health literacy and healthcare provider response to reduce stigma, raise awareness about having a healthy pregnancy, increase healthcare engagement, communication, and shared decision-making with expectant parents, and empower families to engage with antenatal care. Building on existing evidence-based programs including the Safer Baby Bundle and the Baby Buddy App, Safer BabySEEK will increase help-seeking and self-efficacy among expectant parents when concerned during pregnancy, ultimately improving pregnancy outcomes and women’s experiences of care.
